It’s the season of Samhuin.
This year we had the luxury of putting the pumpkins in the new porch which meant they stayed lit all evening, and are wonderfully dry and slug free this morning. I was under strict instructions to buy the extra large ones this year and excited plans were laid for the optimum preparation time, which I found rather amusing as the daughter in question is 24!
Her boyfriend, who has been
squatting living here for the past three months was given a pumpkin of his own to carve. I was amazed to learn he had never carved a pumpkin before. It’s funny how things you completely take for granted in your own life are seen as slightly eccentric by other people.
We had a steady stream of children, most of whom I didn’t recognise. Again we had the parents who chauffeured their kids from house to house in the car, but the village is strung out along a main road so you can sort of see the logic.
We have our Grove Samhuin Ritual this Sunday 3rd, 12.30ish, at the usual venue, if anyone is up for it!
