Last week when I was out photographing the cedar I remembered to swing by and take a picture of this elder which is currently my favourite tree in the Cemetery. It is a hybrid of the common elder we see in hedges and on wasteland but has been bred to have wonderful purple foliage and pink flowers. This one is called Black Beauty, there is another hybrid with very thin leaves which is called Black Lace. I’m thinking of trying to take a cutting off this, but as I’m not very green fingered it might be better if I started saving and bought myself an established shrub.
For better photos take a look at the Lead Up the Garden Path blog It really is a stunning tree.
Continuing the elderflower theme, I picked up a couple of herbal teas to try recently in an effort to cut back on dairy products. We’re not a big fan of ‘stick’ teas here at Stoatie Towers but this white tea and elderflower is definitely a winner. When you open the packet the smell is intoxicating – summer in a box – and it tastes pretty damn good too!
