I don’t buy many mainstream magazines but there are three vaguely esoteric ones that I try and pick up regularly, The glossy Sprirt and Destiny, and the slightly lower market ‘true story’ based, Chat It’s Fate and Take a Break’s Fate and Fortune. Purely for reasons of research you understand! Actually I’ve always been fond of ghost stories and accounts of weird phenomena, for which I blame my mother. She was always coming home with these sort of books from the library when I was a child. I would read them, get completely spooked out and then be told off for refusing to go upstairs by myself, sleep in my room or turn the lights out, totally unfair!
I do find some aspects of these magazines rather annoying, the huge amounts of adverts for telephone psychics, the spells for X, Y & Z, orbs, feathers, cosmic ordering. I also despair of the unending ‘spiritual materialism’ displayed. Buy this crystal, this buddha, this candle, do this course on feng shui, that workshop etc. But every so often there will be a gem in amongst all the dross and guess what I found this week in Chat It’s Fate? An article on OBOD! well actually it was more of a ‘what green Druids do’ piece but still it was pretty positive, and there were two little boxes pointing you in the right direction to find out more. Now if I can just find myself a red velour cloak ….
