On Saturday we held our Lughnasadh ritual in the Park. It was an extra special day as the Seed Group has now been running for five years! To commemorate this, Bracken and I walked the Ceremonial Way of the Stoat over to the Grove. This processional way is the exact route we took when we found Stoatie (all Hail the Stoat!)
Bracken, Craig and I really wanted to make the day completely special and unique to the Group and so rather than go with the usual ‘Brown Book’ OBOD ritual we decided it would be a good idea to write it ourselves. I told everyone that I would prepare and fetch the scripts on the day, but when I handed them out the surprise was, that although the roles were allocated and appeared in the order of speaking, there were no words. Luckily no one ran screaming from the Grove! In fact I was surprised how happy everyone was the idea … Craig and I took some brown books in case anyone wanted to consult them. We had a lot of fun and laughter working on our parts and coordinating the ceremony and when we had finished we had a wonderful, quirky, funny, moving, poetic ritual celebrating the harvest and the Setantii.
To add to the fun, everyone was asked to wear something furry, there were a few small furry companions, I took my stoat tail, Bracken had a glorious pair of rabbit skin gloves, Craig had made his own rather sinister stoat mask and Giovanna had brought her furry monster slippers! What a picture 🙂
In the tradition of Hobbit Birthdays there were also presents for all. Bracken organised a Secret Holly King and we each had to find something in the house that we were happy to pass on to a nominated person. It certainly added to the festivities!
We had the usual picnic afterwards, the weather was dry and sunny, if not exactly tropical. As usual there was far too much food 🙂 We have some wonderful wonderful bakers and there were three fantastic cakes!
