This past week at work, every time Bogart had to write down today’s date, he mentioned that it’s St George’s Day. I think he was rather underwhelmed by my response, but to me it brings back memories of compulsory church parade with the Brownies/Guides. In those days this meant a parade through the village on the nearest Sunday (when it always seemed to rain) before ending up in Church. These parades don’t seem to happen anymore. Is it the extra traffic, the cost of policing or a feeling they’re inappropriate in today’s modern world? In primary school you were allowed to wear your uniform on St Georges Day which did make you feel a bit special but I can’t see them allowing you to do that nowadays either.
Anyway, just for Bogart here is ol’ St George. If you want to buy the original oil painting you can find it at Illustration Art Gallery This was the cover picture from the Look and Learn children’s magazine, which I’m old enough to remember – the magazine, not this particular edition!
