On Saturday the Setantii celebrated Alban Eiler which is the festival of the Spring Equinox. We has a wonderful turn out – enough for all the parts so no doubling up! We welcomed six new people to the group including little Holly who made a wonderful Mabon and heralded in the Spring dressed in a lovely sunny yellow.
We had the usual fire bowl in the South which as always attracted people to it like wasps to jam. There is definitely something hardwired into the human brain about fire, and the importance of creating and feeding the first spark. Giovanna has promised us sausages to cook over it at the end of the rite next time!
This year we have tomato and chive seeds to nurture and bring to fruit. This being the time of year that we plant both real seeds, and also the seeds of plans and projects, both in the apparent and spiritual worlds. I always think of this time of balance, where day and night are equal length, as the deep breath, the calm and centring before the plunge. During this period of increasing light and rising energy there is the giddy feeling of getting swept up and carried along.
After nine months the ongoing works in the Grove have finally finished, although there is still a steel fence around one end, it is now protecting a newly seeded area where a replacement drain has been sunk, so hopefully by Beltane the field will be back to normal.
